Bar Harbor, Maine – Bar Harbor Bank & Trust employees are celebrating a significant milestone in the Bank’s employee-driven charitable giving program, Casual for a Cause. Since the program began in 2018, employees have now donated a cumulative total of $250,000 to more than 115 nonprofit organizations serving Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont residents.
Employees participating in Casual for a Cause dress casually on Fridays in exchange for a bi-weekly payroll deduction in the amount of their choosing. All the employee deductions are pooled together, and the employees then vote on which nonprofits will receive their contributions each quarter. Approximately 80 percent of Bank employees participate in the program.
“I am constantly in awe of our employees’ passion for building better communities and their willingness to contribute not only their time but their own money to turn that passion into a reality,” said Curtis C. Simard, President and CEO of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. “The amount of money they have donated and the number of nonprofit organizations they have supported through Casual for a Cause is truly remarkable. I am honored to call them colleagues.”
