*Open to Chamber Members + Guests*
The Chamber is excited to host Dr. Sarah Flink, Executive Director of CruiseMaine, as she kicks off what promises to be the most active season in Midcoast cruise tourism history with scheduled visits from several first-time-to-the-area ships, including Cunard’s Queen Mary II and Celebrity’s luxury fleet joining scheduled port calls from ships from other lines, including Holland America and American Cruise Lines. Rockland, Eastport, Bar Harbor, and Portland make up Maine’s most active ports of call in the robust New England/Canada Itinerary. The majority of large ship visits will occur during the coastal “shoulder season” of September and early October.
Focusing on sustainable tourism, Dr. Flink will discuss the role cruise tourism plays in Maine’s tourism economy, financial and tourism benefits accrued in the Midcoast through cruise tourism, and a look at the 2024 season and beyond.
Dr. Flink will describe an approach to best tourism management practices that seek to minimize the impact on communities, stimulate real-time feedback, provide timely mitigation of problems and facilitate low impact passenger transit, and congestion management.
Registration details forthcoming.
