“The canvas is a set where everything is staged. Reality has been redacted to a single statement, a single frame, a clip that holds the essence of life. No past, no future, just the here and now. The subject matter is a pretext: a commonplace, a cliché, an artistic quote. A familiar image is taken apart then reassembled and cast in a different light, revealing more complex layers in everyday reality, an almost sacred aura to common gestures. My paintings are a bridge towards early Christian and medieval art and the feeling of awe and amazement they shine on what is represented, that primeval almost pagan yearning of Deity.”
