United Midcoast Charities Distributes $630,000 in Grants to 42 Local Nonprofits

September 19, 2024

On September 11, at United Midcoast Charities’ Annual Grantee Breakfast Celebration sponsored by the Samoset Resort in Rockport, grants totaling $630,000 were awarded to 42 agencies providing the basic needs of food, housing, health & safety, and economic security to residents of Knox and Waldo counties.

These 42 partner agencies represent the backbone of our community’s safety net. At a time when the needs are so overwhelming, UMC provides a unique opportunity for community members to give in a way that supports all these causes/issues at once. The support UMC can give is a testament to the compassion of the collective community—united we are stronger than the sum of our parts.

This year’s grantees include AIO Food & Energy Assistance, American Red Cross, Belfast Area Child Care Services, Belfast Public Health Nursing Association, Belfast Soup Kitchen, Big Brothers Big Sisters, But Still I Am One, Camden Area District Nursing Association, Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers, Coastal Opportunities, Coastal Recovery Community Center, Come Spring Food Pantry, Finding Our Voices, Knox Clinic, Homeworthy, Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, Maine Family Planning, Maine Youth Alliance, MaineHealth Care at Home, MCH-Meals on Wheels, Mid Coast Recovery Coalition, Midcoast Habitat for Humanity, New Hope Midcoast, No Greater Love Food Pantry, OUT Maine, Penquis CAP-Head Start, Penobscot Bay YMCA, Pine Tree Society, Rockland District Nursing Association, Sexual Assault Support Services of Midcoast Maine, Soap Closet, Southern Harbor Eldercare Services, Spectrum Generations, St. Bernard’s Soup Kitchen, St. George Community Development Corp., Trekkers, Waldo CAP, Waldo County Bounty, Waldo County Dental Care, Waldo County Woodshed, Waldo County YMCA, and Waterman’s Community Center.

United Midcoast Charities plays a pivotal role in providing financial support, strategic guidance, and tangible resources to Midcoast nonprofits providing services in food, housing, health & safety, and economic security. UMC strengthens these community-focused organizations to achieve their missions more effectively and have a greater impact.
