For 50 years, Maine Media has served as a hub for visual storytellers from around the world. As an institution, we strive to provide lifelong learning opportunities in photography, filmmaking, creative writing, book arts, design and more. Our educational legacy is rooted in hands-on, experiential learning; dedicated instruction by working artists, professionals, and leaders in their fields; and a commitment to creative community and network-building in media arts.
Maine Media College was founded as the Maine Photographic Workshops in 1973 as a for-profit, summer residency for photographers. Fifty years later, Maine Media is a vibrant center for education in media art, offering a Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA), a Professional Certificate Programs, as well as myriad short-format workshops across a multitude of media disciplines. We provide both in-person and online educational opportunities, for students of all ages and experiences.
